Our surgery provides an extensive range of services. We are fortunate to have our own GPs and nurses with special interests and expertise and community and hospital staff with specialist knowledge to offer services.
Clinics are held at Farnworth Health Centre (Frederick Street) where there are nurses available to perform procedures such as ear syringing, dressings and removal of stitches. A referral is required. Contact 01204 463600.
We insist on at least 6 weeks’ notice prior to the date of travel, as some travel vaccines take several weeks to provide protection and others require a course of treatment separated by more than 3 weeks. If the trip is deemed to be outside of our area of expertise, or we have not been given sufficient time to prepare for travel, you will be advised to contact a Travel Vaccination Clinic.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
In accordance with BMA guidance, the following travel vaccines are funded on the NHS:
Typhoid – (first and any booster doses)
Tetanus, diphtheria and polio vaccine
Cholera (prescription for a 2 courses)
Smallpox (according to BMA)
Anti-malarial medication (in accordance with the MDDUS)
The following travel vaccines are NOT funded on the NHS:
Japanese B encephalitis
Meningococcal A C W135 & Y
There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below
Travel Health Questionnaire
To help us offer the appropriate advice, patient will need to complete a travel questionnaire before coming to see the nurse. This can be obtained from the receptionist.
